Trail Committee Report

  • Dave Pavelosky reported that Schoolhouse trail will require pipe in about 10 areas to correct drainage problems as soon as the weather breaks. He will request PSSA mini-grant money to offset the cost.

  • Dave received an email from DCNR forester Dan Smith stating that the flow rate has been determined for the pipe on the Jones Run trail. Dan is now awaiting approval from Harrisburg which may take 3-4 weeks.

  • No additional news is available on the Gaswell crossing. DCNR forester Eric Ellenbaugh told Dave that he walked the RR grade and noticed white state forest marks on the trees on both sides of the grade. This means we may need private permission to access the trail before the trail is reopened.

  • PSSA regional assistant Kerry Mulkin offered three 10’ sections of squash pipe to our club for work on the above projects.

Website Committee Report

  • Cindy Pavelosky reported that designer Josh Cooney has made some changes to enhance our website. A marquis has been added to the Home page for announcements and the monthly calendar winners were moved from the Meeting Minutes page to a separate page for clarity.

Old Business

  • Nancy Glover repaid the $3,550.00 loan to the club. The loan was used to purchase gas for the Costello Store on the weekend of our dice run.

  • Jim Elwell said that he received grant information from North Central DCNR recreation director, Wes Farringer. Adam Mathis promised him that Harrisburg would look at our grant request for the East Fork bridge again.

  • Jim mentioned that the following work details will be required this year: repair to the wooden bridge near the Vets Club in Austin, repair to East Fork bridges and replace pipes, install Schoolhouse trail pipes, install Jones Run pipe.

  • Jim stated that DCNR wants a 10 year commitment on landowner slips. Attending members raised concerns that landowners may not be willing to “lock into” that length of time.

  • Dave Pavelosky reported that the registration stickers are now current on the club snowmobiles but when he replaced the stickers Dave noticed that the gas lines were dry rotted. Jim Elwell stated that the lines should be replaced before next winter.

  • Dave Schumacher said that the south side of the club shed has bowed and will need repaired in warmer weather along with additional work to the soffit.

  • Jim agreed to get a price for 8” and 12” smooth bore pipe from Tracy (Sunny Hill Pipe).

 New Business

  • The next working group meeting between DCNR and the local snowmobile clubs is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st at Denton Hill.

  • The PSSA annual meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 5th at the Penn Stater in State College. Cindy and Dave Pavelosky will attend for our club.
  • Jim was contacted by Tracy Gordnier about having a new trail created through Dry Run to link with Southwoods Road. We agreed that would be a good idea but more information is needed about landowner permits first.

  • Kerry Mulkin presented a $250.00 check to our club from Adams County snowmobile club to pay for grooming. Cindy said that she would send a thank-you note for their generosity.

  • Kerry reminded us that mini-grants must be submitted prior to April 30th. These grants cover the cost of grooming and all trail maintenance, with the exception of bridge work.

  • Kerry also stated that the 1 million from liquid fuels tax is supposed to go to joint-use roads only. All loggers and well-drillers should be bonded for repair to any other roads damaged due to these activities and should not be assigned liquid fuels money.

  • Jim reported that he and Dave have been in contact with the owner of the 1980’s groomer as detailed in last month’s minutes. They negotiated a price from $12,000.00 to $11,000.00 which we agreed was very fair due to the condition of similar groomers recently advertised. A motion was made and passed to send a $1,000.00 deposit to hold the groomer until a club grant is approved. Several members agreed to donate or solicit private donations to offset the cost.

  • A motion was made and passed to donate $50.00 to Jim Overly for the cost of gas for grooming this past year.

Nominations

  • Marianne Kio was nominated for secretary. All remaining positions to remain the same. Nominations and elections will be held next month at the April 19th meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm.
